  • What can you treat at Mindful Motion Physical Therapy?
    Orthopedic Injuries such as acute or chronic neck, back, or joint pain. Other conditions include muscular pain, pain while performing athletic activities (running, jumping, etc.) These types of injuries are common in every day life. At Mindful Motion Physical Therapy (MMPT) we will help you get back to your 100% and learn the skills to stay there long term. Chronic Pain is one of MMPT's specialities. Pain which has been present for months to years and is affecting seemingly every aspect of your daily life can be a complex and tricky thing to treat. In steps the comprehensive approach of graded exposure to exercise, manual therapy, learning mindfulness and acceptance skills, sleep hygiene, and much more. Refer to our blog for more information about how we may be able to help you at MMPT. Neurological Injuries can have a large impact on one's life. Learning the skills to improve or maintain your function can be of utmost importance in your life if you've been diagnosed with one of the following diseases: Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, neuropathy, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, etc. Treatments will include, but not limited to, balance and coordination training, ADL training, mindfulness skill building to help cope with a changed lifestyle, strength training. Vestibular Rehab will focus on the treatment of vestibular disorders such as BPPV, UPH, vertigo, visual disturbances, and the balance issues which may arise as a result. Ensuring the exact cause of your disorder will be very important, so possible referral to specialists may be required.
  • What treatment strategies do you utilize at MMPT?
    Mindful Motion Physical Therapy prides itself as being a jack of all trades. We want to utilize all treatment options which are at the disposal of physical therapists to ensure we leave no stone unturned. Find below a list of the various treatments we utilize to get you to where you need to go and please reach out if you are interested in specific treatments which are not listed. Exercise: we will gauge your current abilities and progressively increase the workload to ensure increase in strength, mobility, agility, and anything else which is required of you for your daily and recreational life Manual Therapy: guided by years of hands on treatment to patients, manual therapy will be provided as needed to ensure optimal joint motion and soft tissue mobility.. Treatment options include joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, cupping, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization Dry Needling: utilizing a thin filiform needle that aims to restore function, improve muscle function, and reduce pain, dry needling may be a part of your treatment program to speed your rehab along. The utilization of this technique allows your physical therapist to target specific tissues which are not responding to typical exercises or manual therapy techniques. Mindfulness and Acceptance Skills: If you and your therapist find this to be part of your plan of care, time may be taken in your sessions to discuss various themes of mindfulness and acceptance to improve stress reduction, habit formation, presence in daily life, relationship to your pain, and other things which can be discussed at the time of your evaluation. Custom Home Exercise Programs: At initial evaluation you will be provided an initial Home Exercise Program (HEP.) This HEP will be the first step to developing the skills to progressively return to the movement goals you have. It will be adjusted at each treatment session to ensure it is still appropriate for where you are in your treatment program.
  • Do you take insurance?
    We do not take insurance at Mindful Motion Physical Therapy. We are a cash-based physical therapy practice and we do not not have any contracts with insurance companies. We have chosen this model to ensure effective treatment of you and your goals. Due to this model we are not limited in the time taken and requirements of billing which insurance companies require. This is why all of your treatments will be one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy for 60-90 minutes. Full payment is collected at the time of service from the patient. We do accept FSA and HSA forms of payment. Upon request we can provide you with a detailed invoice ("Superbill") which can be submitted to your insurance for Out-Of-Network reimbursement (should your insurance offer this.   • What is Chronic Pain?
    Great question! Chronic pain is pain which has been present for months to years. It doesn't always like to respond to the typical treatments which we often prescribe to acute (i.e. recent) injuries such as medication, rest, surgery, typical PT. Therefore, we need to take a a broader, more whole person view of what is happening within you and your nervous system.   • How do you treat chronic pain differently than the PT clinic down the road?
    Another great question! Many physical therapists treat chronic pain to different degrees of success. It is a fickle and elusive thing which has to do with many different body systems. What sets MMPT apart from typical PT clinics is our approach to the whole body, person, and mind. By developing the skills which are described below, you are setting yourself up to be resilient. There will be many ups and downs in life after your time with MMPT concludes; our goal is to help you deal with these stressors (whether that be physical, mental, or otherwise,) with more equanimity and confidence. Some of the skills which we will discuss and develop are listed below. Graded and meaningful progression into safe movement and exercise based on your initial evaluation. Education on Pain Neuroscience and how our understanding of pain and our nervous system plays a large role in our experience of pain. Developing Mindfulness Meditation skills as a tool to calm the nervous system, relate to your pain differently, create a deeper understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and sensations to provide a fuller experience of daily life and deepen your presence. Identifying and developing a plan surrounding your personal values which you would like to lead life by. Other things which we will address are adequate sleep hygiene, appropriate aerobic exercise, working with acceptance of what is, and much more. Though many physical therapists treat chronic pain, we here at MMPT will ensure that your plan is tailored to you based on your specific needs. Our goal is to help you develop the skills needed to live the life you want to live guided by values, rather than your pain.
  • Why Mindfulness Meditation?
    Depending on where you want to go in your therapy, Mindfulness Meditation can act as any number of things for you and your life. Let's start with some definitions. Mindfulness is the purposeful ability to observe one's thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without judgment, and to be fully present in the current moment Meditation is the tool which we use to cultivate mindfulness in our daily lives. The reason we do this is not to clear the mind of thoughts; rather, it is to observe the thoughts without judgment and to develop a sense of awareness and acceptance of the present moment. Okay... so why mindfulness meditation for my recovery from low back pain? The implications of practicing Mindfulness Meditation with patience and persistence can be profound to your recovery from injury or pain. It can also have an impact to your contact to the present moment, your relationships to yourself and your thoughts, to your loved ones, and the world. You can learn to deal with stress, hardships, and the ups and downs of life with more equanimity. We're taking your body to the gym by doing the exercises we prescribe.
